LEGO Ideas E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Officially Approved
Grab your bikes and get ready to fly across the Moon — LEGO Ideas has officially confirmed that E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is landing as a future building set. Inspired by Steven Spielberg’s 1982 cinematic classic, this marks the first time the beloved alien will appear as a fully buildable LEGO display model.
While fans previously received an E.T. minifigure in LEGO Dimensions 71285 E.T. Fun Pack, this upcoming release represents something far more substantial — a brick-built sculpture in the style of display-focused LEGO Ideas character builds such as Gizmo and Wicket the Ewok.
Theme: LEGO Ideas | Status: Approved via LEGO Ideas Review | Estimated Release: 2026 / Early 2027 | Price & Piece Count: TBC
From Fan Concept to Official Set
The project was submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform by Richard Lemeiter, whose sculpted interpretation of E.T. quickly reached the 10,000-supporter milestone required for review. Thanks to the film’s enduring popularity, the design passed the official LEGO Review stage and is now moving into development as a retail product.
The original fan concept depicts E.T. holding the iconic sunflower he heals in the film, complete with poseable head, arms, hands and feet. It also features an extending neck function — a signature movement from the movie. While the final production version will inevitably be refined by LEGO’s in-house design team, fans will be hoping these quintessential features remain intact.
Investment Analysis: How Could LEGO E.T. Perform?
LEGO Ideas delivers an average annualised growth rate (AAG) of approximately 11%, though performance varies depending on subject matter and production run length.
E.T. ticks several high-potential boxes:
- First dedicated LEGO E.T. display build
- Strong 1980s nostalgia factor
- Globally recognised, emotionally iconic character
While it may not generate blockbuster short-term hype like ongoing franchises, its nostalgic pull and likely one-off status could support steady long-term appreciation once retired.
Final Thoughts
LEGO Ideas E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial brings one of cinema’s most beloved characters into brick form for the first time. For collectors, it offers display presence and emotional resonance. For investors, it presents a first-time licensed Ideas release with strong cross-generational appeal — often a recipe for stable, long-term growth.
Expected in 2026 or early 2027, E.T. could quietly become one of the standout nostalgia releases of its launch year.
