LEGO Icons 10355 Blacktron Renegade | A Rumoured Return to a Classic Era Image

LEGO is diving back into nostalgia with its rumoured 10355 Blacktron Renegade set, that has a potential release date of January 1, 2025. The set, which reportedly consists of 1,151 pieces and is priced at $109.99 / €109.99 / £94.99, aims to modernize the iconic 6954 Renegade from 1987. This modern remake falls under the LEGO Icons theme, continuing LEGO’s recent trend of reimagining classic sets like the 10497 Galaxy Explorer and 40580 Blacktron Cruiser.

If these rumours prove true, the 10355 Blacktron Renegade will come with four minifigures—two pilots and two crew members—making it an exciting prospect for fans of the original Blacktron series. This marks a significant update from the original 6954 Renegade, which included just two minifigures and had a much smaller piece count of 313 elements. The increase in brick count, over 700 more pieces than the original, is expected to result in a highly detailed model, similar to the refinement we saw in the Galaxy Explorer remake.

The Legacy of Blacktron

The Blacktron theme holds a special place in LEGO history as one of the first “villainous” space factions. Known for its striking black-and-yellow color scheme, Blacktron introduced a rogue-like, edgy feel to LEGO’s Space sets. The theme’s sleek, angular ships and distinct aesthetic set it apart from the more heroic factions of the time, like Classic Space and Futuron. If LEGO follows through with this rumoured remake, fans can expect a revival of the bold Blacktron design paired with modern building techniques.

Design Expectations for 10355 Blacktron Renegade

The new set is rumoured to retain the sharp, futuristic angles and asymmetrical cockpit that defined the original 6954 Renegade. While keeping the signature Blacktron colour palette intact, the modern version will likely incorporate intricate detailing, made possible by LEGO’s current design standards. Comparing it to the Galaxy Explorer remake, this model could feature enhanced functionality, improved interior spaces, and a modular design that allows it to split into multiple smaller vehicles—an iconic feature of the original.

What to Expect from the Build

In line with LEGO’s recent remakes, 10355 Blacktron Renegade is expected to strike a balance between nostalgia and innovation. While the overall shape and essence of the original ship are likely to be preserved, smaller, more versatile pieces will replace the large, specialized elements typical of older LEGO sets. This shift allows for greater detail and realism, as seen in sets like the 10497 Galaxy Explorer. Fans hope that the build will still include the iconic modularity of the original Renegade, enabling the spacecraft to separate into smaller components.

A Growing Trend in LEGO Nostalgia

LEGO has been tapping into its rich history with remakes of beloved themes. Recent examples include 10332 Medieval Town Square and 10320 Eldorado Fortress, which updated classic designs with modern techniques while honoring their original charm. The rumoured 10355 Blacktron Renegade continues this trend, offering a thrilling return to one of LEGO’s most iconic space factions. With a release date reportedly set for the start of 2025, fans won’t have to wait too long to see if this rumour becomes a reality.

Cautious Optimism for Blacktron Fans

While the details of the 10355 Blacktron Renegade remain unconfirmed, sources like Instagram user a.clay.brick and the reliable Brick Clicker on YouTube have lent credibility to the rumours. Still, LEGO enthusiasts are advised to take this news with a pinch of salt until an official announcement is made. Whether the new set sticks closely to the original or takes creative liberties, fans are eager to see how LEGO reinvents the classic Blacktron aesthetic for a modern audience.

For now, all eyes are on LEGO’s next move as the rumoured 10355 Blacktron Renegade builds anticipation among fans of both classic and modern LEGO sets. Will it live up to the legacy of the original 6954 Renegade? Only time will tell.
