LEGO Group Opens State-of-the-Art Sustainable Factory in Vietnam Image

The LEGO Group has officially opened its most environmentally sustainable factory to date in Binh Duong province, southern Vietnam. The grand opening ceremony, attended by Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Mai Văn Chính, marks a major milestone in the company’s global manufacturing strategy. The new site, LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam, is the LEGO Group’s sixth factory worldwide and second in Asia, reflecting its commitment to long-term growth in the region.

New $1 Billion Facility Marks Major Expansion in Asia-Pacific.

Spanning 44 hectares—roughly the size of 62 soccer pitches—the $1 billion factory is a high-tech, state-of-the-art facility designed to bring more LEGO® play experiences to children across Asia-Pacific and beyond. The factory will support regional demand while aligning with the company’s goal of sustainable innovation.

LEGO’s Most Environmentally Sustainable Factory Yet

This new facility is a benchmark for environmental leadership. It will run on 100% renewable energy by early 2026, thanks to 12,400 rooftop solar panels and a pioneering agreement with Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) for a nearby battery storage-equipped energy centre—the first of its scale in Vietnam.

Key sustainability highlights include:

  • LEED Platinum certification for its administrative building and play pavilion

  • LEED Gold certification for moulding, packing, and warehouse buildings

  • Introduction of paper-based pre-pack bags—a first for any LEGO factory

  • Commitment to zero waste to landfill

“This is not only a first for the LEGO Group but also a model for others in Vietnam,” said Carsten Rasmussen, Chief Operations Officer at the LEGO Group.

Investment in People, Play, and the Future

The LEGO Group is also investing heavily in its local workforce. An internal training program combining international and local instruction has been rolled out with support from over 100 global trainers. The factory is a flagship site for LEGO’s Future Factory Workplace concept, featuring a people-first design with wellness spaces, play zones, prayer and lactation rooms, and inclusive accessibility.

In keeping with its mission to inspire the builders of tomorrow, LEGO has partnered with local organizations and NGOs to bring learning through play to more than 60,000 children in Vietnam by the end of 2025. Initiatives include:

  • LEGO Braille Bricks with the National Centre for Special Education

  • Build the Change program with LIFE Centre, reaching 15,000+ children

  • Girls Unstoppable project with Save the Children, benefiting 9,000+ girls

Expanding Distribution and Flexibility

In addition to the Binh Duong factory, LEGO will soon open a new regional distribution centre in Dong Nai province, operated by Kuehne+Nagel. This will be the company’s second in Asia, supporting a more agile and flexible supply chain in the region.
