LEGO Donkey Kong Teased by LEGO and Nintendo — Are We Finally Heading to DK Island?

LEGO and Nintendo have teased a new LEGO Donkey Kong set with a rolling barrel animation. Could this be an arcade machine, 18+ display set, or full Nintendo theme? Well, this is completely bananas.

Out of nowhere, LEGO and Nintendo have teased a new LEGO Donkey Kong release, and the LEGO community is already swinging from vine to vine trying to work out what on earth is coming next.

The short teaser shows a classic Donkey Kong-style barrel rolling across the screen, along with the Donkey Kong branding and the words “Rolling Soon.” That is pretty much all we have officially for now, but let’s be honest — that is more than enough to get Nintendo and LEGO fans very excited.

Several LEGO and gaming sites have now picked up the story, including Brickset, Nintendo Life, BricksFanz, Brick Fanatics and Polygon, so this does not appear to be a random rumour floating around the jungle. LEGO’s own UK website also has a page titled “New LEGO Donkey Kong Set Coming Soon”, confirming that something official is indeed on the way.

LEGO Donkey Kong: What Has Actually Been Confirmed?

At the moment, not a huge amount — but the important part is that LEGO® Donkey Kong is real.

The teaser itself gives very little away. We do not yet have an official set name, set number, price, release date, piece count, box art or product images. Nintendo Life reported that the teaser was shown via Nintendo Today and social media, but also noted that there were no further details at the time of writing.

That means we need to be careful before calling this a full “theme” or a complete wave of sets.

For now, the safest way to describe it is:

LEGO and Nintendo have officially teased a new LEGO Donkey Kong set or product, but the exact format has not yet been confirmed.

Not quite as catchy as “DK Island confirmed!” — but probably a lot safer.

Is This a New LEGO Theme or a One-Off Set?

This is the big question.

Jay’s Brick Blog described the teaser as potentially pointing towards a LEGO Donkey Kong theme, while other sites have been more cautious and suggested it could be a single large set. Others speculated that the teaser may point towards a large-scale Donkey Kong figure, or that the barrel could mean the set is inspired by Donkey Kong’s original arcade debut.

There is also speculation that LEGO could be preparing a Donkey Kong arcade-style set, possibly similar in spirit to LEGO 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade. Brick Fanatics referenced rumours of a possible 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade Machine, with a potential August 2026 launch, but this remains unconfirmed until LEGO makes a proper announcement.

So, at this stage, there are a few possibilities:

  • A large 18+ display model of Donkey Kong
  • A LEGO Donkey Kong arcade machine
  • A continuation of the LEGO Super Mario / Nintendo line
  • A brand-new Donkey Kong sub-theme
  • A smart or interactive play set using LEGO’s newer tech platform

Personally, an arcade machine feels like a very strong possibility. The barrel teaser is such an obvious nod to the classic Donkey Kong game that it would be strange if LEGO did not lean into that somehow.

But then again, a huge brick-built Donkey Kong would also be glorious. And probably impossible to display unless you already live in a warehouse.

Donkey Kong Has Already Appeared in LEGO Before

This is not technically Donkey Kong’s first LEGO appearance.

DK has previously appeared within the LEGO Super Mario range, including sets connected to the wider Nintendo play system. However, this new teaser feels different. It is not just another character expansion pack or minor cameo. The branding and teaser suggest LEGO and Nintendo are giving Donkey Kong his own moment in the spotlight.

That is a big deal.

LEGO’s partnership with Nintendo has already grown far beyond the original LEGO Super Mario starter course. We have had Super Mario, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon is also on the way.

In other words, LEGO Nintendo is no longer just a quirky side project. It is becoming a major pillar of LEGO’s licensed portfolio.

Why This Could Be Big for LEGO Investors

From an investment point of view, this is one to watch closely.

Donkey Kong is not just another Nintendo character. He is one of the company’s oldest and most recognisable icons. The original Donkey Kong arcade game launched in the early 1980s, introduced the world to the character who would become Mario, and remains one of the most important video games ever made.

That gives a potential LEGO Donkey Kong set several things investors usually like:

  • Nostalgia: Adults who grew up with arcade machines and early Nintendo consoles are exactly the kind of buyers LEGO often targets with 18+ display sets.
  • Nintendo appeal: LEGO Nintendo sets have a built-in collector audience across LEGO fans, gamers and retro collectors.
  • Display potential: If this becomes a large figure or arcade machine, it could appeal to buyers who want something for a games room, office, shelf or collection display.
  • Character strength: Donkey Kong is recognisable even to people who are not deep LEGO collectors.
  • Crossover collecting: Nintendo collectors, arcade collectors and LEGO collectors may all be interested in the same product.

That crossover factor matters. The more audiences a set appeals to, the more potential demand there can be after retirement.

The Investment Watchlist

Until we get the official details, it is too early to say whether LEGO Donkey Kong will be a strong investment set. Price, piece count, availability, exclusivity and display quality will all matter.

However, this should definitely go onto the watchlist.

Here is what investors should be looking for when LEGO reveals the full set:

  • Is it an 18+ set?
If this is aimed at adults, especially retro gamers, it may have stronger long-term collectability.
  • Is it exclusive?
LEGO exclusives or limited retail availability can sometimes perform better after retirement, depending on demand.
  • Is it displayable?
A great-looking Donkey Kong figure or arcade machine could age much better than a play-focused set.
  • Does it connect to a wider Nintendo line?
If LEGO continues building out Nintendo as a major theme, early or standout sets could become more desirable.
  • Is the price sensible?
A brilliant set at the wrong price can still struggle. Discounts will matter.

Could This Be the Start of a Bigger LEGO Nintendo Era?

LEGO has been steadily expanding its Nintendo relationship, and Donkey Kong gives them another huge franchise to work with. After Super Mario, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon, the addition of Donkey Kong makes the LEGO Nintendo universe feel even more complete.

And if Donkey Kong sells well, it is not hard to imagine what could come next.

Could we one day see LEGO sets based on Metroid, Kirby, Star Fox or even more retro arcade classics? Maybe. Maybe not.

But a few years ago, LEGO Zelda felt like wishful thinking. Now it exists. LEGO Pokémon once felt unlikely. Now that is happening too.

So at this point, nothing feels completely off the table.

Final Thoughts

LEGO Donkey Kong has officially been teased, and while we do not yet know exactly what form it will take, this is already one of the most exciting LEGO Nintendo developments of 2026.

Whether it turns out to be an arcade machine, a giant Donkey Kong figure, a smart play set or the beginning of a wider DK line, LEGO and Nintendo clearly know how to get fans talking. For collectors, this is exciting. For Nintendo fans, this is nostalgic. For LEGO investors, this is one to watch very closely.

Because when LEGO, Nintendo and Donkey Kong all meet in the same jungle, there is every chance this could become a set worth going bananas over.
