LEGO Art Claude Monet Water Lilies (31220) Revealed | Release Date, Price & Where to Buy Image

LEGO Art Claude Monet – Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies (31220) Officially Revealed

LEGO Art has been on a serious roll lately. From 31215 Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers, to 31218 Japanese Cherry Blossom Landscape (so popular it’s still frustratingly hard to find), and the epic cosmic sweep of 31212 The Milky Way Galaxy, this theme has steadily blurred the line between bricks and fine art.

But this latest reveal? This one feels different. Bigger. Bolder. More museum-worthy. The newly announced LEGO Art Claude Monet – Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies (31220) doesn’t just recreate a painting – it invites you to step inside one of the most recognisable artworks in history.

LEGO Art 31220 Brings Monet’s Water Lilies to Life in Bricks

Revealed by the LEGO Group in collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, this 3,179-piece set recreates Claude Monet’s Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies from 1899 – a cornerstone of Impressionist art and a highlight of The Met’s permanent collection.

At first glance, the LEGO® Art set is breathtaking. Look closer, and the clever design really shines. Butterflies, flowers and fruit are woven into the scene to echo Monet’s love of nature, while layered plates and tiles build up a richly textured surface that mirrors the artist’s brushstrokes. Verdant trees frame the scene, the iconic green bridge anchors the composition, and the water lilies drift across the pond in subtle, asymmetric balance – just as Monet intended.

Complete with a built-in wall hanger, this isn’t just a build. It’s a statement piece.

How Monet’s Water Lilies Became LEGO Art’s Most Ambitious Set Yet

According to LEGO designer Stijn Oom, translating Monet’s nuanced brushwork into LEGO elements was the central challenge. The solution? A tactile, almost painterly surface created by layering bricks in multiple directions and carefully selecting colours that echo Monet’s palette.

Up close, you’ll notice individual “pixels” of colour and texture. Step back, and the scene softens into a tranquil Impressionist landscape. It’s a brilliant nod to how Monet’s later works were meant to be experienced – and one of the cleverest design tricks we’ve seen in the LEGO Art range so far.

Hidden details reward patient builders too: subtle colour shifts in the water, a diagonal stroke of light cutting across the trees, and a deliberately uneven distribution of lilies. As the designers themselves put it, “the mistakes make it right.”

A Museum-Level Experience (Literally)

To celebrate the launch, new imagery places the LEGO model alongside the original painting at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, while visitors can even pose behind a larger-than-life LEGO recreation of the bridge on display in The Met Store from 1 March. Additional photography shot in Monet’s garden at Giverny ties the set back to the landscape that inspired it all.

From 1 March 2026, builders can also enhance the experience with an exclusive podcast via the LEGO Builder app, featuring Met curator Alison Hokanson discussing Monet’s inspiration and artistic legacy – a lovely touch that elevates this set beyond a standard build.

And Finally

LEGO Art has always appealed to grown-up builders, but this Monet release feels like a true crossover moment – equally at home with art lovers, interior-design fans, seasoned LEGO collectors and gift buyers looking for something genuinely special. It’s calm, cultured, technically fascinating and undeniably beautiful on display. If Sunflowers and The Milky Way Galaxy showed us what LEGO Art could be, Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies proves just how far the theme can go. This one feels destined for both living-room walls and long-term collections.
