Theme Analysis
The LEGO Minecraft theme is solid enough delivering average annualised growth of 9% across a decent sample size. That said there have been some real blockbuster Minecraft LEGO sets, none more so than LEGO Minecraft the Mountain Cave (21137) which retired in 2018 with an RRP of £259.99 and is now currently valued at nearly £1,500, more than 5 times as much (annualised growth of a stunning 46%!).

Comparable Set Analysis
Within the Mini-fig scale sub theme we get a very similar historical picture with the retired sets producing annualised growth of 9%. We have taken a look at some of the sets with a price point below £50 to see how they perform and found a lot of solid sets and a couple of stellar ones. The pick of the bunch is clearly LEGO Minecraft The Ice Spikes (21131) which retired in 2017 with an RRP of £45 and is now valued close to 3 times this figure at £134 (annualised growth of 22%).
| Set Number | Set Name | Retired Date | RRP | Current Value | Total Growth | Annualised Growth |
| 21115 | The First Night | 31/12/2016 | $40 | $108 | 170% | 14% |
| 21130 | The Nether Railway | 31/12/2018 | $30 | $79 | 163% | 18% |
| 21131 | The Ice Spikes | 31/12/2017 | $40 | $140 | 250% | 20% |
| 21143 | The Nether Portal | 31/12/2020 | $40 | $109 | 172% | 31% |
Conclusion
A solid and reliable theme and sub theme producing close to double digit annual growth numbers and a 20% discount to RRP make this an investable proposition for us, especially with it likely to retire later this year.
