Theme Analysis

As regular readers will know, we are big fans of the Icons theme, and the Vehicle sub-theme seems to be no different at first look. Slightly outperforming the overall themes annualised growth of 14% with an excellent performance of 17%.

We looked at some of the retired sets in the sub-theme, the pick is clearly the LEGO Icons Ferrari F40 (10248) which is now worth more than 3 times its RRP having retired just over 5 years ago giving annualised growth of 24%. A recently retired set that seems to be doing very well is the LEGO Icons James Bond Aston Martin DB5 (10262) which has grown over 25% in the 18 months since retiring.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
10242 MINI Cooper MK VII 31/08/2015 $100 $205 105% 8%
10248 Ferrari F40 31/12/2017 $100 $319 219% 18%
10258 London Bus 31/12/2021 $140 $127 -9% -3%
10262 James Bond Aston Martin DB5 31/12/2021 $150 $202 35% 10%

Comparable Set Analysis

Whilst we have looked at the theme and sub-theme, there are clearly some even better comparators, with Ghostbusters having its own theme with a couple of sets and a previous version of the ECTO-1 from Ideas in 2014. The LEGO Ideas Ecto-1 is now worth 162% more than its £44.99 RRP.

The pick of the Ghostbusters theme is LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters (75827) which has nearly doubled in value since retiring at the end of 2018.

Set Number Set Name Retired Date RRP Current Value Total Growth Annualised Growth
21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 31/12/2016 $50 $138 176% 13%
75827 Firehouse Headquarters 31/12/2018 $350 $796 127% 14%
75828 Ecto-1 & 2 31/12/2017 $60 $126 110% 11%

Conclusion

A cracking set, from a strong theme and sub-theme, underpinned by decent performance from previous LEGO Ghostbusters sets. Add in a near 30% discount currently at Amazon and this is a straight forward must buy in our eyes! Snap it up before it retires.
